Chicago Humanities Fest: Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson on Abundance – A paradigm-shifting call to rethink our most entrenched problems

The Institute for the Humanities is happy to continue our partnership between UIC and the Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) during Spring 2025 with Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson on Abundance - A paradigm-shifting call to rethinkour most entrenched problems on April 1, 2025 at the UIC Dorin Forum at 7:00 PM.

After years of refusing to build sufficient housing, the entire country has a national housing crisis. After years of slashing immigration, we don’t have enough workers. The list goes on. The twenty-first century so far has been full of growing unaffordability and shortage. And in the last few decades, our capacity to see problems has sharpened while our ability to solve them has diminished. Bestselling authors and popular podcasters Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson join Chicago Humanities to trace the political, economic, and cultural barriers to progress and how we can adopt a mindset directed toward abundance, and not scarcity, to overcome them. Drawing from their latest book, Abundance, they ask us to rethink big problems that seem mired in systemic scarcity: from climate change and housing to education and healthcare.

UIC faculty and students can access free tickets to the event with the following instructions:
1. Head over to the event website
2. Click “Have a reveal code?”
3. Type UICSTUDENTCH25  in the box provided.
4. Click the dropdown menu to find your revealed “Student and Teacher” and select quantity.
5. Click “Add to Cart” and proceed to checkout as normal.

UIC faculty and students may also access up to 2 free tickets to any other Spring 2025 CHF programming.  To access these tickets, select “Student and Teacher” from the drop-down menu, select your ticket quantity, and upon checkout, type UICCH25 in the“Enter Promo Code” box provided. Please note that this process is different from the process above - for events other than April 1, enter the code when you check out. Also, the passes do not apply to certain programs, such as book bundles.
