Humanities Without Walls Seed Grants

We are delighted to announce the renewal of Humanities Without Walls (HWW), the Mellon-funded Humanities collaboration among sixteen member institutions and administered centrally by the Humanities Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The exciting grant provides opportunities for scholars across humanities-centered disciplines to collaborate across institutions on innovative interdisciplinary projects.  The theme of the new funding cycle (extending from 2020 to 2025 ) is "Reciprocity and Redistribution."  As with other HWW themes, this one can be interpreted in many ways, but researchers are encouraged to propose humanities projects that enhance our connections with communities, and/or promote distributive justice within them.  While reaching out beyond the "walls" of the university, HWW also promotes collaboration among campuses, so scholars should reach out to colleagues on other campuses, and across other disciplines, as they develop project ideas.

To support faculty as they devise projects, HWW is currently providing seed grants for faculty.  We strongly encourage faculty to apply for the money, which is specifically designated for UIC faculty.  Individuals or groups (which may include graduate students and non-TT faculty) may apply for these small grants (which run from $1000 to $5000).  Please fill out the form attached.  Seed grant applications are due on December 1, 2020 to huminst@uic.edu.
