“Bridging Worlds: Narratives of Cultural Encounter in India”
Drawn from a work of creative non-fiction set in a former British hill station in north India, this talk engages themes of cultural encounter, finding voice, religious belief, tolerance, discernment, and forgiveness--as well as problems related to economic oppression including indebtedness, substance abuse, and domestic violence. In the talk I will lay out the some of the methodological issues involved in bridging memoir and academic writing, and share excerpts from this work in progress.
