SUMMARY:War and Visual Politics in Palestine/Israel: Conversation with Anthropologist Rebecca Stein
DESCRIPTION:How do activists use smartphones and technology to bear witness and document Israeli state violence and colonization? And how do the Israeli state and international Zionist movements respond to the perceived threat of these new technologies? Rebecca Stein will facilitate a discussion on the visual culture of warfare and settler colonialism in Palestine/Israel today. Click HERE to read an article prior to the event by Professor Stein. The reading is not required.    Rebecca Stein is Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Duke University. She studies the cultural  politics of militarism in Israel and the history of Palestinian dispossession, with a focus on the  impact of new communication technology. She is the author of Digital Militarism: Israel?s  Occupation in the Social Media Age and Screen Shots: State Violence on Camera in Israel and  Palestine.
