Download iCal FileAs a partner of Mostra XV, UIC is hosting a screening of the Brazilian Film Festival on November 4th and 16th, 2024. The screening on November 4th takes place at the Institute for the Humanities. The film is "Grande Sertão", by Guel Arraes, which is inspired by one of Brazil's most canonical literary works and has a star-filled cast of respected Brazilian actors. After the screening, Political Science professor Juan Albarracín will lead a discussion about Brazil and Brazilian society as depicted in the film.
Mostra offers to the UIC community interdisciplinary and intellectual exchange on campus about crucial topics such as history and colonization, immigration and exile, gender and sexualities, feminism, contemporary politics, violence, and more. This is a great opportunity to expose students to Brazilian films that normally have difficulty reaching general audiences and to foster and promote valuable cultural exchange. The festival is also an opportunity to promote cultural integration between Brazil and the Spanish-speaking Latin America.Despite Brazil's size and leadership role in the region, it is still underrepresented within American universities in general and Latin American cultural studies in particular.
